Most 25 year old females have closets that look like this…

My closet has bit more of these in it… (and by a bit, I mean a lot!)

I think shoes are a BIG deal in the Crossfit World.  The day I received my Pendlay Olympic Lifting shoes (thanks to one of my Coaches, David Sutor for picking them out and encouraging me to get a pair-only about 2 months into CFing) in the mail and wore them changed my CF life for sure! I will NEVER go back to Olympic lifting without them. Whenever there are WOD’s that involve Olympic lifts and running/box jumps (aka things I don’t like doing in Oly shoes) I get really sad because I can’t wear them! Its miserable most of the time =) they just put you in such a good position, my squat feels so wonderful.  Also, I had hurt my heel from slamming my feet on the ground doing cleans and snatches in minimalist shoes  so decided I needed them. Best decision of my life! (You can tell I tend to exaggerate a tad, but for real-great choice) Anyone who is really seriously about getting better at their Olympic lifts should definitely invest in a pair of Oly shoes. I love my Pendlays, but I also have friends who love their Reebok and Adidas ones as well. Also if you need a cheaper fix, I hear Chuck Taylors are good lifting shoes too-who would have thought!

The first pair of shoes I invested in as a CFer were Inov8s-195. I love love love them!!! They are so light and flat and comfy.  Also one I really recommend, they are great running shoes as well (if you are pose running that is =) which everyone should be!!) Here’s the thing about them though-I don’t love squatting in them or lifting in them…then I discovered the new Reebok Nano 2.0 and fell in love. Not only because they are HOT PINK!!! (clearly, what other color would I get???) but also because they are the perfect hybrid shoe-solid heel that really forces you back when you are squatting and lifting but also very light weight and flexible for running, jumping and WODing. AKA they are AWESOME!! If you are someone who is looking for an all in one shoe I would definitely say get these! You can even design your own with whatever colors you want =)

Well, that is my tid bit on shoes and the ones I love to Crossfit In. Post a comment, let me know your favorite shoes? Share the love =)

Hi Laura! I also find that shoes really make a huge difference in both stability (SQUAAAAAAAATS) and agility (BOXXXXXXXEN). I’ve tried a whole bunch of them, from the minimalist stuff to the maximalist cross trainers. The Nike Plus 2’s are good, but a little too much of a profile to the footbed (downward sloping from heel to toe) for OHS’s and the like. I love love love my Keen TR-86’s. They’re super light, nearly flat profile, grippy, and super comfortable. I feel fast and stable in them, even on Sunday mornings. 🙂

    They’re also cheap!

I will go invest in some Olys after reading this, I’m curious to try them out!

So are you saying that you use the Nanos for all workouts now? The Innov8’s and Pendlays are on the shelf?

I love my New Balance MX20’s. Minimalist shoes with zero drop, so good for lifts, and definitely good enough for running too. The big thing for those of us with wide feet is width options, and as far as I know, no one’s better with width choices than NB. I go with the 2E width, and fits like a glove.

I already have a shoe obsession, and now CF shoes are in the mix too. Good thing they’re cheap!

Andrew- I do not use my Reebok for every workout. I still do all my olympic lifting in my Pendlays, however if there was a workout with an Oly lift and running/jumping I would wear my Reeboks. Also, I think I will still wear my inov8s when I am just running. Hope that helps!! =)

I have heard so many people talking about the Nanos! Your post has confirmed that they are worth buying! Anyways, I love my inov-8s and yes, the Reebok OLY shoes are fantastic as well! I have also heard awesome things about the Pendlays. OLY shoes in general are just fantastic!
