To Paleo or Not to Paleo? That is the question…

“Meats and veggies, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar”

Are you Paleo? Some version of Paleo? This post is inspired by the most delicious roast I have ever made!!! It came from paleomg.com-see bottom of the post for a link to the site (I did not make the “rice” although I am sure it would have been amazing too! Try this recipe out, I can promise you will not be disappointed. I am always in search for good recipes. The biggest thing for me is finding easy ones because I do not have a ton of time to prepare meals-the crockpot is my go to! A few of my go to blogs are paleomg.com, nomnompaleo.com, everydaypaleo.com, and fastpaleo.com-check them out!

I have been following the Paleo Diet for exactly a year and a half. I started March of 2011 with a 30 day Challenge put on by my box, Crossfit Defined.  (Shout out-WOOWOO!) After those 30 days I went about 80/20 with it, but eating A LOT of fruit, nuts, and sugar (even though it was Agave or Honey). Then about 3-4 months later I became much more serious about my training, realized I wasn’t quite getting the results I wanted and decided I wanted to get to the next level.  Since then I eat, I’d say, 95-98% of the time Paleo with basically no sugar, and very, very, little nuts and fruit.  As a kid and young adult I was always struggling with weight and tried probably every “diet” out there. I grew up playing every sport imaginable and continued to play soccer competitively from the age of 7-college at Valpo and still I fought to really get into ‘great shape’. Paleo, along with Crossfitting, is the only thing that has worked for me. I finally found out the things my body does not like –which unfortunately for me is primarily SUGAR!!  And I might have the biggest sweet tooth around =) Chocolate Chip cookies are my all-time favorite! Along with ice cream or frozen yogurt, with that being said, I have cut back on those items significantly.  I still treat myself once in a while, I mean I’m only human and a girl only lives once…right?? =)

Well, this is just a dabble into my Paleo adventures, but I truly believe in it and think that everyone should at least give it a try. It is worth the sacrifice and soon you won’t miss the things you once thought you couldn’t live without.

What is your Paleo story?

I don’t really have a “story,” but I’ve been following Paleo since Nov 2011. I found out about crossfit through Paleo blogs and started doing my research on CF. Then found CFD and love everything about it!!! PaleOMG is my favorite blog out of all of them! Juli B. is one of many of my inspirations. She is hard working & very real along with letting herself have a cheat food/drink every now and then. Like you said…we are only human. I feel sooo much better eating this lifestyle! I believe I am fueling my body in the way I need to in order to perform the way I want it to. I personally have more energy, don’t feel bloated & weighed down after a meal. It took me some time to get through the carb cravings/withdrawls, but once I was on track and focused, I felt soo much better than any diet or weight loss program I’ve tried. I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself of food this way. Some additional blogs for you and anyone who is interested…

Here’s a link to a 60 minutes that aired over the weekend. It is all about sugar and why it is so bad for us. It supports the idea that sugar is not so great for us and is causing heart disease. Thought you might find it interesting.
