Who Inspired You Today?

13 Aug

On May 18th I performed ‘Diane’- a Crossfit Girl WOD.  This WOD consists of 21-15-9 Deadlifts and Handstand Pushups (HSPU-for future). Too put it nicely, I did awful. It was the first workout of the North Central Regionals and I had a decision to make-how was I going to let this affect me? I had a similar situation happen in my very first competition at the Great Lakes Invitational.  First WOD seemed right up my wheel house-I did okay, but not great.  I remember my Coach, Noal, putting his hands on my shoulders and saying, “You did your best kiddo, but how you are going to let this affect you and the rest of the weekend. You did not disappoint anyone, move on and kick a$$ in the other WODs” and that is exactly what I had to do. The most amazing thing about all of this is that it translates to everyday life! “Life is full of setbacks, Success is determined on how you handle them.”

It seems like a reoccurring circumstance as I ‘lost’ my first WOD this Saturday and the Survival of the Fittest competition at Crossfit Huntley.  I am going to try and not make a habit of out this =) The Competition, as I mentioned in my last post, was a 1v1 style-whoever won the most out of 6 WODs won.  I finished 3rd place with a record of 4 W and 2 L.  Overall I was pretty happy with the outcome, although not completely satisfied because I was really gunning for 1st and think I had it in me to do that. Next one! The best part of this competition was that I got to redeem myself a bit.  The second workout pulled for me to complete was Deadlifts and HSPU – Diana scaled down a bit 15-9-3. You might not have thought it, but I was ecstatic! I had an opportunity redeem myself a little, to improve on something that I know needed much improvement-and I rocked it out! (Twice actually haha luck of the draw, I had that workout pulled again for me the second time around) I was smiling ear to ear after I was finished; with my friends standing there smiling right back-it was a great moment, made my day!

I am a true competitor at heart, with myself and pretty much everyone around me =) When I found Crossfit that was one thing I loved most about it.  In the beginning it was just about competing against myself, getting better each day and later turned into that and much more. The best part of going to competitions is that it exposes your weaknesses and I think we all need that (from time to time =) ). I always leave a competition knowing something I need to get better at or an area I need to give a little more attention to.  Thus far, each following competition I have done better than the previous.  It’s a great feeling both ways, that realization that you are not as good as you thought you were is so humbling and inspiring and the feeling of growth and improvement is gratifying, but  also inspiring! It is hard to put into words the way Crossfit and competing makes me feel-let’s just say I love every aspect of it!

I think everyone should feel inspired once a day.  Surround yourself by people, activities, things that inspire you, inspire others while you’re at it! I am a lucky woman because I get to wake up each day and do what I love and be inspired by so many people around me. Not everyone is as fortunate, but I do believe you can still make choices with who and how you spend your life-who inspired you today?

BIG shout out to my fellow friends/athletes that competed with me this weekend- Johnny, Alberto, Kevin and Chris(not pictured).  I am proud of each one you, you represented CFD with integrity and hard work-excellent job fellas!
