“Champions are made when no one is watching”

It’s not what you do when people are around; it’s what you do when no one is watching. That is what really matters.

A true test to one’s dedication is if they stick to their guns even when they know no one else will know if they don’t.

I’m sure everyone has experienced this in some way, shape or form in their lives. Whether it be that you are on the newest fad diet and then you run into a coffee shop where they are giving out free samples, your alone…should you just try it because it’s there and free and no one will ever no? Or do you smile, say no thank you and walk away? Have you ever gone for a “run” or started too then walked a lot then ran a little then walked a whole lot more? No one knew you didn’t run the whole time right? All anyone “knows” is “you went for a run”.

I could go on and on with examples.

Lately I have been working out alone. Not a single sole in the box but me, myself and I. There have been times when I think, “Damn, this is hard! I don’t want to keep going for another 10 minutes.” Or mid workout I think, “maybe I’ll just change the rep scheme to x instead of z” But I don’t. I keep repeating to myself that opening quote.

“Champions are made when no one is watching”

It has really helped me stay true to what I’m doing. In the end, I’ve never been disappointed by my results. Yes, we all have good days and bad days, in and outside of the gym, but it’s how we respond to those days that make us who we are.

Today I thought, “The athletes at the Games just rowed over 21,000 meters on a Concept 2 Rower-YUCK! I think I can keep pushing this sled just a few more times”

One of my favorite parts of Crossfit is that we all get to work out alongside other people-fellow athletes busting ass just as much as you are, feeling the pain you feeling, dripping puddles of well-earned sweat. I think a lot of one’s results have to do with what happens outside of the gym. Again, when no one is looking…

So many things go into making up the characteristics of who you are.

So I leave you with this, what will you do the next time no one is looking? What decision will you make when no one else is around? Will you give up? Give in? Let go? Or stay true to who YOU ARE?
